PMO's face a unique challenge in the wide variety of projects that they are responsible to undertake. This year it could be an upgrade to the Financial applications and implement a new Warehousing system. Next year is scheduled a Content Management system to be followed by an upgrade to Office 2010.
The value of the PSP is that you have a consistent delivery framework for project execution (i.e. issues from all projects are on a single list), the entire project can be encapsulated for future reference (i.e. the next upgrade), the system is self documenting so you can easily see a complete trail of how decisions were made and who made them as well as numerous other benefits.
Visibility
The PSP comes pre-built with valuable management reporting capabilities, like Earned Value and historical and current Net Present Value reporting. You can quickly configure your own standardized reporting KPI's and reports to ensure consistent analysis across all projects.
Flexibility
While intended for implementing and upgrading business applications, the PSP is equally adept at being used in infrastructure projects, development work, whether on or offshore, marketing events and other project based collaborative endeavors. If it involves people, objectives, dead-lines, money or team-work, the PSP can be utilized.
